We sing as the spirit moves us: Native American songs, Hindu chants, rounds, simple contemporary songs about our connectedness to all things. Our voices blend and separate, sometimes achieving beauty and sometimes brave experimentation! The idea is borrowed from Japanese author Masaru Emoto, and his books about how human vibrational energy, thoughts, words, ideas and music can influence the molecular structure of water and help to purify it. The positive energy with which we reverence the Mississippi, here near the start of her long journey to the Gulf of Mexico, surely helps her (and all who live in and around her) on her way.
This time, one of the group brought roses, and as we gifted the River with their bright and fragrant petals, we prayed not only for the health of the Mississippi, but particularly for the ocean to which she is flowing. It is daily being polluted beyond both our ability to comprehend, and our ability to halt. No amount of singing, no amount of positive thought, will fix the problem of this catastrophic hemorrhage of gas and oil. But positive directed energy in song or word (or whatever form it takes in your life) can do no harm. And if we each pair our positive thought with action and commitment to be much less reliant on fossil fuels, there may be a future for us, and the River, to flow into.
Petals on the water
The Latin word for sand is "arena"... so is what water creates by moving sand into patterns an "arenaglyph" (in the way that what's inscribed on a rock is a "petraglyph"?)
What do you think the River is writing to us?
Toward the end of our time along the shore, some
desultory rain drops added their patterns, writing on top of the water. Aquaglyphs? They reminded me of aerial photos of crop circles in England. (And my theory about those is that they don't come from space ships but are a message from the vibrational energy of the earth itself.)
Friend Duck flew in to listen (and maybe check out the rose petals.)
Eastern shore and clouds with a bit of arenaglyph in the lower left corner.
Blessed be this change of season in your life.
